Moore Black Press
Our Story
Moore Black Press, founded in 1997 by poet jessica Care moore, is committed to uplifting, publishing, and celebrating cutting edge voices in Black poetry. Some of the first poets signed to the press were Saul Williams, asha bandele, Danny Simmons, and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka.
MBP’s mission for the future is grounded in the transformative interdisciplinary voices, of this generation and beyond, that are often overlooked by mainstream presses. We aim to tap into the Black genius that we know deserves larger platforms, shelf space and literary nods. Our “Audio Originals” line includes limited edition vinyl, and our “Words on Wax” Series pays homage to the collector item appeal of record collectors, to create living digital archives of some of the most innovative writers, thinkers, change makers in the culture. Moore, in partnership with Serendipity Literary Agency’s Regina Brooks, is committed to building a fun press that brings joy and encourages deep engagement from readers.
Moore Black Press aims to be a leading voice for Black poets. From the academic poet to the spoken word artist, we are cultivating it all. We are bringing a diverse group of artists into the world of books– because after all, this world belongs to them too.
