Micah BlackLight is a writer, illustrator, artist, graphic designer, dancer, vocalist, performance poet/mc, custom couture fashion designer, motivational speaker and Empowerment Coach.
He has designed and constructed numerous costumes and ensembles for national and international performance artists and art activists. His artwork has been part of exhibitions at the prestigious Hirshhorn Museum in Washington DC and has graced the covers of several independent recording artists’ albums. Working under the name M. Lael, he illustrated the children’s book Loco’s Lullabye written by acclaimed international, multi-media art activist Madafi Pierre. As a performance poet, dancer, vocalist and mc, BlackLight has performed on stages across the country in venues ranging from New York’s BAM Harvey theater and nationally recognized Nuyorican Poets’ Café, to the Playwright in Ashland, Oregon, and the Dance Mission Theater in San Francisco.
